Matthew Watts is an Episode Producer on The First 48, A&E’s popular homicide program. Overseeing his own team of editors, Matt molds a narrative from more than one hundred twenty hours of raw crime scene footage, writing over one hundred narrations and recaps. Matt also streamlines character arcs and story points to interweave two homicide cases into a one-hour episode. Prior to working in-office, Matt also field produced for The First 48, shooting and collecting data for more than ten episodes.
Raised on Long Island, Matt received his MFA in Film with a dual concentration in Directing and Screenwriting from Columbia University’s Graduate Film School in 2007. In his research arts years, he supplemented his time teaching—assisting internationally renowned film critics Andrew Sarris and Annette Insdorf. Matt was also awarded one of three prestigious preceptor positions and led an intensive directing lab for undergraduate film majors.
In Fall 2007, Matt wrote and directed two spec commercials, one of which (“Anger Issues” for Match.com) was featured in the November 2007 issue of Shots Magazine’s New Director’s Showcase.
